I need to break the spell of heredity
To cleanse my life the curse I'm blood bound to thee
What I will and wont take anymore
I'm doin all i can to hold it in and down
To use and to abuse upon another excuse
Neglect indifference amidst the chaos
The shame and the pain and the beatings I don't feel numb to the core
Your dull fingers up my spine dissonance and manipulation
You remember the hate mistakes? Well i do, the bondage and the bone
Thing you want most denied
I'll end this prophecy of woe
The thing raised dead amidst the frayed ends
Of sanity i wont become the same monster
I don't want to feel it anymore
Close and lock the goddamn door
Shut in shielded from your storm
Outside in I'm all alone
Saw what will be what wont be again
Not a chip off your block wont be your descendant
A successor stained by the violence
Where the madness reigned, pandemonium
Saw what could be what wont live again
With every tick of the tock i curse the resemblance
Dysfunction buried in silence
All the never agains owned with vengeance
Pain inside I leave behind the lessons of my life I got to break free
Break on through the mold you made its everything i gave
incessantly I fight the war inside my head its all ill ever bleed
I feel it comin on again i count the ways I'm not your progeny
A moment to the memory where the failures led to insanity
and i mark off the days that I put between
I count the ways I will never be you
Our decision to remix/remaster this record just over a year after originally releasing it was a heavy topic of discussion within the band. Ultimately we weren't happy with the sound of the original release. We didn't feel excited to show it off and as the months passed we realized nobody was really listening to it. The few people checking out our music would gravitate towards our first EP "Broken from the Start" which, while still a bit raw, sounds much more polished.
We rushed in the studio, didn't record to a proper click, and overall were just not fully prepared when we booked our studio time. The end result was an EP that sounded very rough and uneven. It had a raw, almost live sound. Which has its charm, but didn't properly capture the energy we bring to our music. This was our fault. Our original engineer did what he could within the constraints we put ourselves under, but ultimately we were the ones who were unprepared.
Earlier this year we offered our friend Rico Ruotolo, an excellent recording engineer, a shot at remixing a song to hear what he could do to make it sound better. He cleaned up the track so well that soon after this little test turned into a full EP remix with additional guitar tracking to beef up the original sound. There was no going back.
So here we are now. Just over a year later with a remix/remaster of The Sacred and the Scarred.
